McKenna: Edwards Fine Despite Controversial Red Card - Ipswich Town News

Boss Kieran McKenna says winger Kyle Edwards is fine despite his controversial red card at Cambridge on Tuesday.

Edwards, already booked for catching a U’s player with a high boot, was clearly clipped by Jubril Okedina as he burst into the area on the left but referee Thomas Parsons felt the former West Brom man had dived and gave him his marching orders.

"He’s fine. It was such a ridiculous decision that it didn’t really need any comment,” McKenna said. "He knew it, as did everyone bar one in the stadium, so it’s fine.

"We would have liked the game the other night to be different, but in reality it’s probably the game for that mistake to happen. Kyle was fine, and it’s about moving on to Friday night straight away.

Town were unable to appeal the sending off with Edwards now set to miss the Blues’ game in the Papa Johns Trophy’s round of 32.

"I don’t think you can appeal because it’s two yellows,” McKenna said. "The game the other night is by the by and the frustrating bit is that it means Kyle will miss the [frst] knockout [game] of the competition for a decision that I don’t think needs any more comments from me. It can’t be appealed and that’s the frustrating part, I guess.”
