Charlton manager Ben Garner says he won’t be appealing the two FA charges laid against him following his sending off during Saturday’s 4-4 draw with the Blues at the Valley.
Garner was charged with two breaches of FA Rule E3 on Wednesday having been sent to the stands by referee Josh Smith for taking his protests too far following Town’s second goal, receiving first a yellow card and then after continuing his remonstrations a red.
As he left the field, the former Swindon boss made accusatory gestures towards the official, while also encouraging his club’s fans to get behind their team.
Garner subsequently spent much of his post-match press conference criticising referee Smith, the fourth official and the standard of League One refereeing in general.
"It’s the first time I’ve ever been dismissed so it was a new experience, if you like,” Garner told the Addicks club site. "I still don’t know what I was actually cautioned for and sent off for because, in my mind, I didn’t do anything untoward — there was no foul or abusive language and no aggression in what I said.
"But I have to take responsibility for my actions after that, so in terms of the charges brought against me I have to accept those and I have to learn from those.
"I just hope other people do the same in terms of their performance and what they did in the game, but as I say I accept responsibility for that.
"The flipside of that and the positive, if you like, is the strong connection with the supporters and the energy that moment created.
"The bond I felt with them during that moment was incredible, so on that side of things there are positives to take from it as well.”
Quizzed on what punishment he expected to receive, he added: "For me I would see it as a low-level case. I don’t think there is much severity to it. Obviously I apologised for my actions and took responsibility for what I did after being sent off.
"I don’t know is the honest answer, but I wouldn’t envision a touchline ban or anything of that severity. I’ll be submitting my response today and I’m waiting to hear from the FA as to the action that will then be taken.”
