Ball: I'm Gutted It's Unlikely I'll Play Again This Season - Ipswich Town News

Midfielder Dominic Ball says he’s gutted that he has suffered a ruptured meniscus which will require surgery and means he's unlikely to play for the Blues again this season.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury during the Charlton match but played the FA Cup tie at Bracknell before the severity of the issue was recognised.

Writing on Twitter, Ball said: "After having a scan, I am absolutely gutted to announced that I have ruptured my meniscus.

"I will have to receive surgery and face a lengthy time away from the pitch. It is not something I have faced before but a challenge I know I will over come and come back stronger.

"I am gutted that it is unlikely I will play again this season but I will do my absolute best to get back out there to help the team. Thank you everyone for the support and kind messages.”

Manager Kieran McKenna revealed Ball, who joined Town in the summer after leaving QPR, was set for a long spell out following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Cheltenham.

"Dominic’s been seeing a specialist so we’re waiting for a report on that. Dominic’s unfortunately got a very severe knee injury that in all likeliness rules him out for the season,” McKenna said.

"He picked it up really innocuously in the Charlton game, didn’t feel quite right in the Bracknell game on Monday night and has seen a specialist this week and has an issue with his meniscus that’s going to need quite a complicated surgery.

"Extremely disappointed for him first and foremost because I think he was primed to be a really big player for us and really improve and kick on in his career, so very disappointing for him but knowing his character he’ll bounce back from it.”

Ball joins a lengthy Town injury list along with Tyreece John-Jules, who has a hamstring problem, which also may require surgery.

Sone Aluko isn't due back from his knee injury until Christmas, while Lee Evans is also out with a knee problem at present.

Better news is that Greg Leigh (compression fracture) and Gassan Ahadme (foot) are expected to be back in action later this month.
