Baggott in Indonesia Squad For AFF Cup - Ipswich Town News

Blues centre-half Elkan Baggott, who is on loan at Gillingham for the season, has been named in a 28-man Indonesia squad for a training camp ahead of the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup, which takes place in late December and early January.

The training camp starts on November 28th in Bali before the squad moves on to Jakarta closer to their opening game against Cambodia on December 23rd. They subsequently face Brunei, Thailand and the Philippines in the group stages with the tournament ultimately ending on January 16th.

Baggott and Indonesia reached the final of last year’s tournament in Singapore, which they lost 6-2 to Thailand over two legs, but with the Blues centre-half controversially banned from the second leg.

The 20-year-old joined the League Two Gills in July and has now made 23 starts and one sub appearance, scoring twice.

Asked whether he has been getting good reports from Gills boss Neil Harris regarding Baggott earlier this month, Town boss Kieran McKenna said: "Very much so, they are really pleased with him.

"We've watched all of his games and he's getting the things we wanted him to get from the loan and improving and learning with every game. Hopefully, that process will continue.”

Baggott, who was born in Thailand to an English father and Indonesian mother and brought up in Colchester, has won 12 full Indonesia caps and has scored two international goals.
