Darrens Called-Up - Ipswich Town News

Town youngsters Darren Bent and Darren Ambrose have been called-up to the England U20 squad facing Switzerland at Upton Park next Thursday. Fellow Academy product Matt Bloomfield is on standby.

The game is part of a friendly competition also involving Germany and Italy with the England side already having lost to the Italians and beaten the Germans. Each nation meets all the others home and away.

The Darrens' call-up could cause a problem for Town with both of them also required for next Tuesday's match against Brighton.

Towards the end of October Darren Ambrose was withdrawn from the England U19 squad in order to take part in Town's matches against Slovan Liberec, Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough. The Blues will hope to get the same outcome with this latest call.

The England U20s may also call on Ambrose and Bent when they play in the World Youth Championships in the United Arab Emirates between March 25th and April 18th of next year.

This could cause more problems for Town as the competition is taken very seriously by FIFA. If the youngsters are involved with the England U20s they could miss up to five Blues games.
