Makin and McGreal Return - Ipswich Town News

Town manager Joe Royle has some difficult decisions to make before picking his side for Saturday's home match with Rotherham. As well as having John McGreal and Chris Makin back in his squad some of the fringe players impressed at Anfield on Wednesday.

The Town boss says he'll spend a while considering his options: "McGreal and Makin are back in contention again and I'll sit down and think about how we'll approach this game.

"Certain players gave me plenty of food for thought on Wednesday night and I've several things to consider carefully before announcing the starting line-up.

"Tommy [Miller] has had a bit of a tendinitis problem and I've been waiting for ages to see him play again. He did very, very well."

That might suggest that Miller will remain in the midfield with skipper Matt Holland continuing on the right side of a central defensive three as he did against Liverpool and also against Avenir Beggen earlier in the season.

Royle also revealed that the failure of Finidi George's wife to settle in this country was part of the decision to allow him to leave on a free: "Finidi is a smashing professional and a great lad, but he hasn't really settled into the game here, particularly in the Nationwide League where we are now.

"His wife has gone back to Spain and it's a very unsettling time for him. We've spoken to several agents and informed then that he can go for no fee if the right club comes in."

Rotherham boss Ronnie Moore, a man who thought he was in the running for Royle's job due to a hoaxer, has few fitness problems: "We are free of injuries and suspensions but now the time is probably right to change things around a bit.

"Ipswich play a different formation to what we've seen recently so we must accommodate that.

"We've so many games coming up that some of the boys need a rest before the Christmas period."

Striker Darren Byfield returns after missing Wednesday's game against Blackburn for disciplinary reasons.

Former Town defender Chris Swailes will be looking to make a strong impression.

Town squad: Gerrard, Marshall, Wilnis, Hreidarsson, Gaardsøe, Naylor, Venus, McGreal, Makin, Clapham, Magilton, Holland, Ambrose, Couñago, D Bent, Armstrong, Wright, T Miller.
