Brown Watford Move Off - Ipswich Town News

Town defender Wayne Brown will not be moving to Watford as the Hornets cannot afford to sign him. The 24-year-old defender was recently told he could leave on a free by manager Joe Royle.

Watford have been in talks with Brown this week and manager Ray Lewington says a deal is not possible at the moment: "Wayne came here last year, was very popular and we would like him. But because of the financial situation at the club we cannot afford him unless anything happens in the next couple of weeks.

"If we are up against any other clubs, we just cannot compete. He is a good player but there is nothing doing."

Brown now looks more likely to join Gillingham and is likely to make a decision over a move to the Priestfield Stadium early next week.
