Brown Set for Move - Ipswich Town News

Town defender Wayne Brown is set to move to Watford today after accepting that he will have to take a pay cut to leave Portman Road. Brown had previously turned down a deal with the Hornets as well as one at Gillingham.

The 25-year-old says that money isn't everything and has long been after regular first team football, something he hasn't been getting at Town: "I am taking a wage cut but I have always said I'm not in this game just to make money I want to play football and I chose Watford because I want to play for the manager."

Brown spent three months on loan at Vicarage Road last season and would have joined them then but for their financial problems.

Last month Joe Royle decided that Brown was not in his plans and offered him a free transfer. Negotiations with Watford and Gillingham have been ongoing, however neither club could match his current wage. Watford always appeared to be the favourites to land his signature.

Brown made 37 starts and 13 sub appearances for Town after turning professional in 1995. Along with Richard Naylor he was Town's longest serving player.
