Town Shirt Name Change? - Ipswich Town News

There is increasing speculation that Town may have to change the sponsor's name on their shirts before the end of the current deal with TXU Energi. The UK retail arm of the electricity company was recently sold to Powergen who plan to ditch the TXU name by April next year.

Town's sponsorship runs out in 2005 and the club had been confident that they had made adequate provision in the contract with TXU to prevent any change of name on shirts being necessary should this situation arise.

Commercial director Paul Clouting says that meetings with Powergen are ongoing: "As far as we are aware no decision has been made as to when the company will change its brand on its own bills and letter headings, let alone our team shirts.

"Discussions between ITFC and Powergen on sponsorship branding are in their early stages and unlikely to be concluded for some time.

"If ITFC were to change the sponsor's name on the home shirt this would happen to coincide with the 2003/04 season."
