Clapham Fee Agreed - Ipswich Town News

Town have agreed a fee of £1 million for Jamie Clapham with Birmingham City. The defender or midfielder is travelling to the Midlands today for talks with Steve Bruce's club.

Clapham, not thought to be amongst the highest earners at the club, joined the Blues from Spurs initially on loan back in January 1998 before signing permanently two months later for £300,000.

At Spurs he had been primarily a midfield player but he spent much of his time at Town at left-back. However, this season Joe Royle has used him as part of his central midfield three.

As previously reported Birmingham City have watched a lot of Town games recently with Hermann Hreidarsson understood to be the player interesting them. However, it now appears that Clapham was the man they were after.

Clapham has played 252 times for Town and has scored 16 goals, including the first against Morecambe of Saturday.

Last season the Blues turned down a £1 million offer from West Ham for the left-sided player.
