McKenna: Everyone's Really Happy With Fulham Cup Draw - Ipswich Town News

Boss Kieran McKenna says everyone at Town was very happy to draw Premier League Fulham at home in round four of the Carabao Cup.

The Blues are paired with the Cottagers for the second time in four years, the West Londoners having run out 1-0 winners of a second round tie in 2020.

Town reached the last 16 for the first time in 13 years by defeating another Premier League club, Wolves, 3-2 at Portman Road on Tuesday, while the Whites beat Norwich City 2-1 at Craven Cottage the following evening.

Although not yet confirmed, the tie looks set to be played on Wednesday 1st November as Fulham are in league action at Brighton on the preceding Sunday.

"We really liked it,” McKenna said when asked what he thought of the draw.

"I think a home draw is nice because it’s such a busy schedule. I think we play Birmingham a few days later [Saturday 4th November], the game [with Fulham] is going to be on the Wednesday.

"We come back from international duty with a game on the Friday night [at Rotherham on 20th October], so there’s going to be next to no preparation time for that.

"Then we go away to Bristol [Tuesday 25th October], we’re at home to Plymouth [Saturday 29th October], so to have another far away travel certainly would have made the schedule more challenging.

"It was nice to get a home game, brilliant to get another Premier League club, a well-established Premier League club now, who have performed well for a few seasons and will give us a massive challenge, but also at Portman Road a really exciting game that we’ll look to go and attack.

"Everyone’s really happy with the draw. Of course, it’s quite a few weeks away now and it’s nice to have it on the horizon but with the full focus towards Saturday and the big game coming up and that will be a nice one to look forward to well after the international break.”
