The Hermann Hreidarsson to Birmingham story continues to appear on an almost daily basis with a Midlands paper reporting today that Steve Bruce could turn to Hermann should his bid for Arsenal's Matthew Upson fail.

Bruce is insisting that the £3 million Upson deal is still on despite reports that the former Suffolk player wants to stay at Arsenal.

Birmingham have already made a loan bid for the Icelander, something Town were not interested in. The Blues quoted Bruce's club a fee of £2.5 million if they wanted to take Hreidarsson to St Andrew's permanently.

Elsewhere, John Curtis is reported to be keen to drop down a level to play at Town or Portsmouth. Despite a number of reports linking Curtis with Town earlier in the week, Joe Royle has said that he had no interest in the Blackburn defender at present, although he had enquired about him when at a previous club.

Portsmouth are said to be willing to pay £500,000 for the former Manchester United man.
