Reuser Given a Free - Ipswich Town News

Town manager Joe Royle has told Dutch midfielder Martijn Reuser that if an offer comes in he can leave Portman Road on a free transfer. Reuser has featured in the Blues' first team just twice this season due to injury.

Royle says that Reuser's wages are too high for him to be sitting on the sidelines as he has been recently: "He's a luxury we can't afford. Martijn is one of our higher earners and this was a decision we had to make. I've spoken to him and he's taken it very professionally. Another reason is that the current system here doesn't suit him."

Reuser made his first appearance of the season against Avenir Beggen before he went off for a knee operation. Since then he has appeared in a number of reserve games and as sub against Morecambe.

The Dutchman, who won one international cap before joining the Blues, started out at Ajax prior to moving to Vitesse Arnhem.

He signed on loan for Town towards the end of the promotion season and scored the fourth goal in the play-off final at Wembley. That summer George Burley signed him permanently for £1 million. He has made 77 appearances for Town, scoring 13 goals.

In August Charlton were keen on signing the 27-year-old on loan but injury kept him at Portman Road. Alan Curbishley may well be interested to learn of his availability.
