Claus Jensen could be about to sign for Town in a deal worth £4 million.
Bolton Wanderers accepted Town's new offer after originally turning down an approach at around the £3.5 million mark.
It is being reported that the Dane on his way to Ipswich and is ready to talk terms with George Burley before joining Town on their pre-season tour of the Baltic.
It is also being reported that Charlton have had a similar offer accepted by Sam Allardyce's club and they could jump in if Town fail to agree a deal with Jensen.
Of the Jensen transfer George Burley said: "I don’t anticipate anything happening today but we are doing our best to tie things up in time for the player to join us on our pre-season tour. We are hopeful we can get something sorted out.”
Town are once more being linked with Sunderland youngster Darren Williams. George Burley refused to comment on the player as is his habit when asked about players in contracts with their current clubs.
Burley also hinted strongly yesterday of some movement on Richard Wright contract wrangle in the next few days. In a TV interview last night he said he had spoken to Richard Wright and that there would be further discussions with the player and his agent later this week, presumably before the team leave for the Baltic. Wright and Matt Holland both started training yesterday after their extended breaks.
Town have urged fans awaiting season tickets not to panic and have reiterated that they are on target with applications. The Ticket Office has processed 75% so far and have another 5,000 to go.
Only once all season tickets have been processed will tickets start to be sent out. It is thought that there were a couple of thousand applications above the 18,000 limit.
The club have also re-stated that only holders of Portman Plus and Blues Crew cards will be eligible for the 2,000 remaining tickets available for games.
Tony Mowbray has won the Match Magazine Player of the Season award. Mogga had an amazingly consistent season after originally deciding to take a lesser role on the pitch and concentrating on coaching.
The man himself said: "It was very unexpected but it is nice to be recognised for my consistency, not anything spectacular."
The 37-year-old went on to praise Titus Bramble describing him as having "an awesome physique, two great feet and ... all the attributes to make him a fantastic footballer."
