Town Reject Darrens Bid - Ipswich Town News
Town are reported to have rejected a £2.5 million bid from Newcastle United for Darren Bent and Darren Ambrose. Bobby Robson's club have long been claimed to have an interest in Ambrose while it is little surprise that Bent is attracting similar attention.
The bid was made by Magpies' chairman Freddie Shepherd who did not approach the club itself but spoke to administrators Deloitte and Touche.
Town were claerly unimpressed with the somewhat underhand nature of Newcastle's attempt to capture the pair and dismissed their offer as "derisory and insulting."
Had the offer been successful Newcastle would heva been unable to field the players until next season. Contrary to reports elsewhere they would not have been able to loan them back to the Blues as Town are currently subject to a loan embargo which will not be lifted until after they are out of administration.
