Top-of-the-Table Town Women Face Gwalia United - Ipswich Town News

Ipswich Town Women will be looking to maintain their place at the top of the FAWNL Southern Premier Division when they face Gwalia United at Newport Stadium this afternoon (KO 2pm).

The Blues hit the summit last week without playing - their game against AFC Wimbledon was postponed as the Dons were in cup action - as results elsewhere went in their favour.

The division is extremely tight with goal difference separating the top four and only three points the top seven.

Gwalia United, formerly Cardiff City, are ninth having won one, drawn one and lost three of their games so far.

"We’re all in this sport because we like competing and like working really hard, and we’re looking forward to getting back to it this Sunday,” manager Joe Sheehan told the club site.

"We have had a good start to the campaign but it doesn’t mean anything at this stage. It means we’ve got to keep pushing forwards and keep trying to pick up as many points as we can.

"Gwalia will be really competitive as always. Every time we have played them it’s been a tough game and a physical test.

"It will be a tricky game but one that we’ll be well prepared for and one we’ll have to be at our best to get anything from it.”

It’s a busy week with a lot of travelling for Sheehan’s side with a trip to Billericay on Wednesday evening (KO 7.45pm) and then a FAWNL Cup tie at Exeter next Sunday (KO 2pm).
