Not the Right Time - Bent - Ipswich Town News

Town striker Darren Bent says he is not keen on a move away from Portman Road at this stage of his career. The 19-year-old was targeted by Newcastle United last week along with Darren Ambrose, and latterly Matt Bloomfield.

Bent and Ambrose, along with Matt Richards, were the guests of honour on Monday night at Simon Milton's first Ipswich Town Night at his Bury St Edmunds bar.

Neither player was keen to answer too many questions on the subject of Newcastle's controversial offer but Bent told TWTD: "I'm happy at Ipswich. There are right times to move and I don't feel it is the right time. I'm happy at the moment and I wouldn't want to play anywhere else.”

The England U21 international, who has just bought a house, added that Ambrose feels the same way about his position and both indicated that they are keen to win promotion with Town.

The striker joined supporters in watching a video re-run of Town's dramatic second half comeback against Sheffield United. However, he says that the squad aren't getting carried away with that performance: "Everyone enjoyed the Sheffield United game, but we're not going to get too wrapped up in that. We're just going to look forward to Wolves now and trying to forget the Sheffield United game.”

The night saw the three Town youngsters answer questions from the floor from fans and watch a motivational video which was put together for the side going into the 2000 play-off final.

Bent says the three of them were there to help out Milton, a coach at the Academy, who has helped him as he has progressed: "I speak to him a lot, every day he's in at the Academy. He's always given me advice which is good and that helps me to become a better player.”

Despite nearing his goals target for the season Bent says he is not increasing it: "I said 15 at the start of the season and I'm sticking with that, even though I've got 13 it's not going to be easy so I'll still go with 15.”

Bent is likely to start in the Town attack on Wednesday alongside either Marcus Bent or Pablo Couñago.

Ipswich Town Nights on a Monday at Miltons Bar are set to become a regular attraction. See TWTD for more details of future events.
