Delap, Hutchinson and Burns Win Caps - Ipswich Town News

Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson were in the England U21s side which beat Ukraine 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium, while Wes Burns was in the Wales team which drew 2-2 in Iceland.

Delap and Hutchinson started for the Young Lions and were involved in most of England’s attacks as they dominated the first half but without finding the net.

The striker created an early opportunity, then Hutchinson, playing wide on the right, shot over, then the former Chelsea man was thwarted by a defender just before the break.

Delap saw an effort fly over soon after the restart, before Hutchinson was replaced in the 63rd minute.

Ukraine improved after the break and went ahead on 70 but England struck back via Manchester City’s James McAtee on 88 and in injury time to claim the points.

England are now two points behind the Ukrainians with one game to play, in the Young Lions’ case host Azerbaijan at Ashton Gate on Tuesday. Ukraine, whose goal difference is poorer than England’s, are away against third-placed Serbia.

Delap was winning his eighth U21s cap but picked up a booking for dissent and will miss the game on Tuesday.

Hutchinson was winning his first at this level having opted to switch back to representing England after playing two friendlies at senior level for Jamaica.

Blues winger Burns came on at half-time for Brennan Johnson, son of Town legend David, as Wales surrendered a 2-0 lead to Iceland in Reykjavik.

Burns was winning his ninth cap, while Nathan Broadhead was left on the bench throughout.

Wales, remain second in Group B4, take on Montenegro at the Cardiff City Stadium on Monday.

Elsewhere, former Blues full-back Kane Vincent-Young, 28, who is currently without a club having been released by Wycombe at the end of last season, is set to make his international debut for Grenada in a CONCACAF Nations League game against Curacao tonight.
