Town Women at Plymouth - Ipswich Town News

Ipswich Town Women are in action against Plymouth Argyle at Home Park this afternoon (KO 2pm), their third trip to Devon already this season.

Following cup and league trips to Exeter, ending in a 2-2 draw and 3-1 win respectively, the third-placed Blues face the Pilgrims looking to close the gap on Oxford United in second and Hashtag United at the top. Town have two games in hand on both the teams above them.

Plymouth are currently second-bottom of the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division having taken only three points - a 5-1 win away against the MK Dons - from their first seven matches. They have lost all three of their home games.

Town, who will be wearing the pink third kit for the first time, go into the match still unbeaten in all competitions but having dropped points last week when they drew 0-0 with Watford, who are fifth, at the Martello Ground in Felixstowe.

That game saw all-time top scorer Natasha Thomas hit another milestone, her 216th match for Town, making the 28-year-old the Blues’ record appearance-maker, overtaking former skipper Amanda Crump.

"When I first joined the club I never thought I’d become the record appearance holder. I know Amanda Crump, who had been here for so long, but I didn’t think that would be me,” she told the club site.

"Some of my favourite memories have to be the game I played at Portman Road. I have had so many great times, but playing there and scoring at both ends was really special.

"I am so grateful to still be here and to have the opportunities to get even more appearances. It’s been a really happy time for me and my family.”

Reflecting on the match at Argyle, she added: "Plymouth are a well-drilled side. We need to make sure we’re on the ball and execute our game plan well. It’s going to be a nice pitch to play on and should be a really good game.

"We need to keep doing what we’re doing and take it game by game. We’ll make sure that we take everything on board from the coaching team and try to get the three points we’re after.”
