Town Switched Off - Joe - Ipswich Town News

Town manager Joe Royle was left unimpressed at his side's defending after the 4-2 home loss to Wolves. However, the Blues' manager was surprised at conceding so many goals given the away side's lack of chances.

The Town boss said: "It was a very strange game and I really don't know how we lost it.

"One or two of our players switched off in the last half an hour, we started giving the ball away and at times we defended like children.

"Only Fabian Wilnis defended superbly for 90 minutes. Our goalkeeper didn't have a save to make in 90 minutes and yet he still ended up conceding four goals. It's amazing and very frustrating.

"Credit to Wolves for taking their chances but I think even they'll wonder how they came away having scored four goals."

Wolves manager Dave Jones was understandably pleased with proceedings: "We didn't start too brightly but got a grip on the game in the second half. Our second goal was probably the most important because it gave us a great lift and also deflated them.

"We're two clubs with similar expectations so this was a massive result for us.

"We said before the game that whoever won the midfield battle would go on to win the game and I think it's fair to say that they edged it in the first half and us in the second.

"The game was all about personal battles across the pitch and it's fair to say we came out on top."
