McKenna: Slicker Right to Be Proud Following First Scotland Call - Ipswich Town News

Town manager Kieran McKenna says keeper Cieran Slicker is right to be pleased and proud to have been called up to the full Scotland squad ahead of their November Nations League matches.

Scotland host Croatia at Hampden Park on Friday 15th November, then travel to take on Poland in Warsaw on Monday 18th November.

Slicker, who joined Town from hometown club Manchester City in the summer of 2023, qualifies to play for the Scots through his Glasgow-born father.

The 22-year-old has previously won 19 U21s caps and skippered his side during their September games but this is the first time he has been included by first-team manager Steve Clarke.

"He's very pleased and very proud and rightly so,” McKenna said. "And his family is pleased.

"He was straight in contact with his grandparents to tell them the good news. He's delighted and very proud of his Scottish heritage.

"And, of course, he's been an important player for their 21s as well. It's a good step for him. He's developing well.

"He's fully back training now [after a hand injury] and has played for the [Town] 21s as well. We think he's a very good goalkeeper and being with the international squad is only going to help him.”

Slicker has made two senior appearances for Town, both in the Carabao Cup last season.
