Wilnis in Against Riga - Ipswich Town News

Fabian Wilnis will make his first appearance of the pre-season this evening when Town take on FC Riga in the Latvian capital. The Dutchman has remained in England while his wife gave birth during which time his team-mates have been getting pre-season off to a winning start. The former De Graafschap player is likely to start this evening with many of the other sixteen players used so far getting a run out at some point, Not playing will be James Scowcroft (thigh) and John McGreal (foot, although on the mend).

Rumoured Town target Gary Breen has committed himself to Coventry. He says he feels he will be a big part of the Sky Blues' season. It was unlikely Town would have looked to seal a deal with the Irish international once the signing of John Scales was complete.

Town have confirmed that the final friendly of the pre-season will be Fiorentina on August 12th. Kick off time is yet to be set.

Mickey Stockwell has signed a year’s deal with Colchester United. The ex-Town veteran had been training with the Layer Road side and joins other ex-Town stars Jason Dozzell, Gavin Johnson, Steve Whitton, Geraint Williams, David Gregory and Steve McGavin. Town play a friendly at Colchester on Friday night.

Basil Acres, the first Town regular of the professional era to be born in Suffolk has died at the age of 73. He made his debut under the management of Scott Duncan and captained Town under Alf Ramsey. He won two Division Three (South) medals in 1953/54 and 1956/57. In later years he worked in the Development Office and at one time had a pet shop in Norwich Road.
