McKenna: Edmundson Goes With Our Best Wishes and Will Always Be Welcome - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Kieran McKenna says George Edmundson, whose permanent move to Middlesbrough was confirmed this morning, leaves the Blues with the club’s best wishes.

Edmundson, 27, had been at Portman Road throughout the two promotions after signing from Rangers in the summer of 2021.

The Mancunian had been on loan at Boro in the first half of the season before being recalled earlier in the week with the clubs having been unable to agree a fee.

However, following further talks a £600,000 plus add-ons fee was settled on Thursday evening with Edmundson signing a two-and-a-half-year deal at the Riverside.

"He’s been an important figure around the club in the last couple of seasons,” McKenna said.

"He played his part in both promotions and was a well-liked character in the dressing room and around the community.

"He goes certainly with our best wishes to a good club and we hope it goes well for him and he’ll always be welcome.”

In total, Edmundson made 71 starts and four sub appearances while at Portman Road, scoring once.
