Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has said the early signs for winger Wes Burns are ‘not good’, confirming the Welsh international left Anfield on crutches for a scan on a swollen knee.
The 30-year-old was carried off on a stretcher following a lengthy period of treatment that came after a challenge with Cody Gakpo 25 minutes into this afternoon’s contest, which ended 4-1 in the Premier League leaders’ favour.
McKenna said in his post-match press conference: "He’s not good but we’ve got our fingers crossed.
"I’m not exactly sure but it’s something with his knee. It wasn’t an impact, it was a movement.
"The knee's very swollen and he's on crutches. He'll be going for a scan. We hope that it's not as bad as it looks, but it does look like a serious one.”
Burns, who had come back into the Town starting line-up following the 6-0 home defeat to Manchester City last Sunday, was replaced by Ben Johnson.

Meanwhile, McKenna confirmed that left wing-back Leif Davis did not emerge for the second half due to illness.
He said: "He was sick this week. He felt better yesterday and wanted to have a go at it but he felt sick during the game and sick at half-time.”
Jens Cajuste was left out as the Blues continue to manage the Sweden international’s ongoing knee issue.
