Town Women Denied Return to Top as Game Abandoned - Ipswich Town News
Ipswich Town Women’s FAWNL Southern Premier Division game away against Gwalia United was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch at half-time with the Blues 2-0 in front.
Sophie Peskett had netted in the eighth and 12th minute to give Joe Sheehan’s side a comfortable lead at the break at the Newport Stadium.
However, the match was brought to an early end due to the state of the surface.
The Blues were on course to return to the top of the table with Hashtag United, currently first by three points but having played three more games than Town and with a worse goal difference, not in action today.
It’s the second time the fixture has succumbed to the weather with the match postponed 10 minutes before the scheduled kick-off back in September.
The Blues now face a third trip to Wales on a date yet to be scheduled.
Town: Negri, Mitchell, Boswell (c), Wearing, Barker, Robertson, Garrad, Watson, O’Brien, Peskett, Fisher. Subs: Hartley, Addison, Bonwick, Bowyer, Hughes, Rutherford, Thomas.

Blackburn Rovers 1-0 Ipswich Town - Match AbandonedTown look set to face a return trip to Blackburn Rovers later in the season after this afternoon’s game was abandoned after 80 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch with the home side 1-0 up and with the Blues down to 10 men. Jacob Greaves was shown a straight red card four minutes after the break for hauling down Yuki Ohashi, then Rovers skipper Todd Cantwell netted a penalty on 59, but the heavy rain had made the game increasingly farcical the longer it progressed and in the 80th minute referee Stephen Martin took the players off and then 25 minutes later abandoned it entirely.
