Woolfenden Signs New Deal - Ipswich Town News

Centre-half Luke Woolfenden has signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract with the Blues, a deal which runs to the summer of 2027.

Academy product Woolfenden, 26, joined the club aged 11 and made his first-team debut in the Carabao Cup at Luton in August 2017.

If he stays with the Blues for the full extent of his new terms, the Chantry-raised defender will have been a senior player with his hometown club for 10 years.

"I think happy is probably the only word I can say. The club’s in the Premier League, so it made sense to sign a new deal,” he told TownTV.

"I think it’s not something I’d ever have imagined, being here this long. It’s panned out in a way I wouldn’t ever expected. I think I’ve had times where I’ve looked dead nailed-on to leave and then it can change so quickly in football and I’ve always been quite lucky in that respect that the tough times have never lasted that long for me, so it’s been enjoyable.”

The former East Bergholt High School pupil’s current deal was up at the end of the season with clubs having shown interest in this window. Sheffield United made a loan offer but were told the Blues would only listen to permanent bids, while MLS franchise Inter Miami were also keen.

Woolfenden has now made 197 starts and nine sub appearances for Town, scoring five goals.
