Burley Sunderland Link - Ipswich Town News
Former Town manager George Burley is one of a host of names being linked with the vacant manager's position at Sunderland. The Black Cats sacked bosses Howard Wilkinson and Steve Cotterill yesterday with the club bottom of the Premiership and seemingly certain for relegation.
Although Burley's name has been mentioned, former Ireland boss Mick McCarthy is the favourite with ex-Leeds boss David O'Leary also said to be a possible target.
Former Town man Eric Gates, now a radio pundit in the North-East has said that he is behind his ex-Town team-mate: "Personally, and I'm biased, I'd like George Burley, he's a great lad, a great character and he likes the game played properly."
