Thomas a Cheat - Reading - Ipswich Town News

Reading skipper Steve Brown has somewhat surprisingly accused Town defender Thomas Gaardsøe of feigning injury in order to get Royals man Adrian Viveash sent off at Portman Road on Tuesday.

Video evidence clearly showed Gaardsøe crash to the ground after Viveash flew into him making clear contact to his face, seemingly enraged at Gaardsøe wasting time at a Reading freekick.

However, the Royals captain saw the incident very differently and even claims that Gaardsøe winked at the red carded defender as he make his way off the pitch.

Brown says he team-mate was unfortunate to be sent off: "To be honest I think he's a bit unlucky.

"We're going to say that as we're in his corner. I don't know much about their lad, but when you go down like he did then get up quickly with a wink and a smile then something is wrong.

"I think that's your answer as to whether Adi should have been sent off or not.

"The referee didn't see the incident. When you see it on TV from six different angles it can perhaps look like a terrible challenge, but Adi Viveash is in no way malicious.

"He doesn't want to get sent off. All he wanted was the ball and he put his arms out to push him.

"But if that's what the lad wants to do, get Adi sent off, then he's succeeded.

"It's gamesmanship and he won't get much respect in the game for doing that.”
