Wages Stop Darren Return - Ipswich Town News

Town chairman David Sheepshanks has revealed that it was wages which stopped Darren Ambrose returning to the Blues on loan after completing his £1 million deal with Newcastle United.

The Blues were happy to pay the wage he had been earning at Town but the Magpies wanted him to receive his new higher salary, something Sheepshanks says the Blues cannot afford: "We were not able to agree to that and Newcastle United were not prepared to agree a compromise.

"It was disappointing having to do this transfer in the first place but it is doubly frustrating that we were not able to bring Darren back."

The Football League were in the end not asked to give Town permission to have Ambrose return, but it seems unlikely that they would have given the club permission to take a player on loan due to the automatic transfer embargo slapped on all clubs in administration.
