Butcher Backs Burley - Ipswich Town News

Former Town captain Terry Butcher says that George Burley is the perfect man for the vacant manager's job at Fulham. Burley himself said yesterday that he was flattered to be linked with the position.

Butcher, now manager at Motherwell, says that his former team-mate has the know-how necessary to do well with the Cottagers: "George has the experience at Ayr United and Colchester United, as well as at Ipswich.

"They were teams that had not been in the top flight, so in terms of experience he is a very well-rounded manager.

"Sometimes you have got to be down in the lower leagues and experience working at these teams that haven't got a lot of money to work with.

"He had money at Ipswich and I thought he did very well. I have no doubt if George put his name forward it would be very good for Fulham and very good for George Burley.

"With the introduction of the transfer windows, there are different criteria for managers to work with in the Premier League and there is not a shadow of a doubt he would be a good choice for Fulham."
