Spanish Sereni Interest? - Ipswich Town News

Reports in Italy claim that Matteo Sereni may become a target for Spanish clubs when his loan spell at Brescia is up in the summer. The keeper's fine form has also led to speculation that he may get an international call before too long.

Sereni has had a fine season with Brescia and could attract other Serie A and La Liga sides. The gossip crazy Italian papers have even mentioned giants Real Madrid and Barcelona in connection with the keeper, however these look like highly speculative links.

Sereni joined Brescia from Town last summer on a year-long loan. After suffering a hip injury in a car crash the keeper has enjoyed a highly successful season and, with the Italian national side going through a difficult period, it is not such a surprise that he is being mentioned in connection with an international call.

This weekend Brescia suffered a rare defeat when Inter's 1-0 win ended their 16-match unbeaten run, Crespo scoring the winner four minutes into injury time.

Brescia are likely to remain in Serie A next season and will be keen to keep Sereni. However, finances may dictate that they can't have him, despite provisionally agreeing a fee with Town last summer.

The Rondinelle have until the end of this month to tell Town whether they want to take him, although it is likely that he is already being touted to other clubs by his agent.

Town's other season-long loanee, Frenchman Ulrich Le Pen, was a 61st minute sub this weekend as his Strasbourg side lost 2-0 away to Monaco.

Le Pen is keen to join Strasbourg but money is tight with a new consortium set to run the club, taking on substantial debts. They have already said that they will try to save money by not signing loan players permanently or extending contracts.

Strasbourg, like Brescia, tentatively agreed a fee for their Town loanee and will decide soon whether they can keep him.

Ipswich Town 0-3 Charlton Athletic - Match Report
Town suffered their biggest home Championship loss since April 2018 as newly promoted Charlton Athletic netted three times in the second half to shock the Blues 3-0. The home side had been the better side in the first half, albeit with the visitors having two of the period’s three best chances, but the Blues fell apart in the second after Sonny Carey had given the Addicks the lead on 52 with Macaulay Gillesphey and Miles Leaburn adding goals on 55 and 64 to inflict the Town’s first Portman Road defeat of the season and their biggest Championship loss on their own turf since the 4-0 loss to Aston Villa more than seven years ago.
