Town Swoop for Serb Ilic? - Ipswich Town News
Town are being linked with a close season move for Anderlecht's Serbian defender Aleksandar Ilic. The experienced 33-year-old is set to be released by the Belgian club over the summer.
The Blues will watch Ilic in a friendly against Town's Spanish seventies UEFA Cup opponents Las Palmas on Thursday and Joe Royle could move for him when the club comes out of administration at the beginning of June.
Ilic, 6'2" tall, has previously played for Club Brugge, Paniliakos Pyrgos, Radnicki Nis (twice), Cádiz CF, Atlético Madrid, Crvena Zvezda (formerly Red Star) and joined Anderlecht in the summer of 2000.
While with his latest club he played in the Champions League, including games against Leeds United, and won the Belgian Juliper League.
Ilic is said not to be required by Anderlecht, although he has another year left on his contract.
Joe Royle has said that he intends to bring in two central defenders over the summer, as well as a goalkeeper.
