American Beauty - Ipswich Town News

Town are this morning being linked with 27-year-old USA international Gregg Berghalter.

The centre-half, cousin of Boston Red Sox baseball legend Carl Yastrzemski, has been on trial at Huddersfield all summer and Steve Bruce looks set to offer him terms.

Town, however, have other ideas and make seek to make Berghalter, who has spent the last few years playing in Holland, the second Town centre-half signed over the summer. Sheffield Wednesday are also thought to be interested.

George Burley said: "There is always going to be speculation about players, there is nothing I can do about that. We are looking at one or two players to bring in to strengthen the squad, which, given the quality and type of player we are after is not always easy."

Burley has refuted suggestions that Town are to make a £1 million move for Lee Marshall of Nationwide Division One side Norwich City.

Town reserves contrived to lose 7-0 to Nationwide Division One side Norwich City yesterday. The Town side, including centre-halves Mark Venus and John McGreal, both recovering from injury, never really got going.

The only Town man to show anything resembling form was Richard Logan who hit a post. Trialist Tom English, released by Arsenal, was once again involved. Full side: Salmon, Nicholls, Moffat, McGreal, Thetis, Venus, Abidallah, Logan, Midgley, Friars and English.

Sacked mascot the New Bluey will make his final appearence at the Fiorentina game on Saturday (3pm). The New Bluey never reached the same levels of popularity as the Old Bluey, known to some as the Punk Rock Bluey.

A New New Bluey is expected to take to the field for the Manchester United game. If stories are to be believed the New New Bluey features electronics which will give the bipedal horse spinning eyes. An in-head dry-ice machine will also allow Town's new mascot to snort real smoke at opponents.
