Town keeper Andy Marshall held his hands up and admitted that he is the only one to blame for the free transfer given to him yesterday by Blues' boss Joe Royle.
The former Canaries glovesman says he did not have the greatest of years: "I'm the first one to put my hands up and admit I did not have the best of seasons. It was below par and I know I have a lot more to give.
"I showed in glimpses what I can do but I know I was not consistent enough so I can understand where Joe is coming from."
The stopper felt that his errors always led to goals: "In previous years if I had made a half a mistake nothing drastic would happen, but this season every one, however little, was punished dramatically."
He says he is on a good wage which may also have influenced the decision and is unsure why things haven't worked out for him at Town: "No one has been able to put a finger on why things have gone so wrong, it is no one thing.
"Perhaps a change of scenery or even just a fresh start here or elsewhere will be a good thing and things will be different next season."
The custodian's relation with with the Town support was rarely harmonious and an interesting statistic shows that, while the Blues had the second worst home defensive record behind Burnley, away they had the second best behind Portsmouth.
Boss Joe Royle has already made it clear that he intends to sign a new number one but his identity remains a mystery. Recently Royle ruled out Paul Gerrard but now seems to be back-tracking a little on the Everton minder: "It will be hard to get him but not completely out of the question."
