Bowditch's England Lose - Ipswich Town News
Town striker Dean Bowditch was in the England U17 side which ended the European Championships in fourth position. England lost 1-0 to Austria in the third/fourth place play-off game on Saturday afternoon, Daniel Pirker scoring the only goal.
Bowditch's side had lost on penalties in the semi-final to eventual winners Portugal who beat Spain 2-1 in the final.
The Town striker set-up England's best chance of the play-off when he put Ryan Jarvis through one-on-one with the Austrian keeper. However, the Norwich player failed to take advantage.
England boss John Peacock was disappointed to have lost: "It was a pity to finish in fourth place.
"Emotionally we were still feeling the consequences of being defeated by Portugal in the shoot-out in the semi-finals. We had two or three great scoring opportunities and didn't take them. A goal would have boosted our confidence."
