Newcastle Back for Bent? - Ipswich Town News

TWTD understands that Newcastle United are set to make another attempt to lure Town striker Darren Bent to St James' Park. The 19-year-old has long been coveted by Magpies' boss Sir Bobby Robson who tried to sign him late last season.

As Town entered administration in February Newcastle made an audacious attempt to sign Bent, Darren Ambrose and Matt Bloomfield in a £3 million swoop, the money paid over a number of years.

This was turned down by the Blues but shortly afterwards Town were forced to accept £1 million for Ambrose in order to be able to pay the wage bill during April.

Darren Bent is the player the club least want to sell as they feel he is still a developing player and one who could be worth significantly more in seasons to come. However, the plans outlined in the CVA proposal, which was accepted by creditors earlier this month, do expect some income from transfers this summer.

Bent's wages of around £4,000-a-week will make little dent on the wage bill should he leave but if there are no bids for higher earners like Matt Holland or Marcus Bent then the Blues may be forced to sell their younger players.
