Bennett Signs at Brum - Ipswich Town News

Town target Ian Bennett has confirmed to Birmingham boss Steve Bruce that he will be remaining with the Midlands club. Joe Royle was expecting the news and said yesterday that he doesn't expect to sign a keeper before July.

Bruce says his on-holiday keeper called him early this week to say he will sign his new two-year deal: "Benno rang me and gave me his word that he wouldn't be leaving. We should complete the formalities when he gets back.

"It's great news. I've said all along that I've not wanted Benno to go and I'm delighted he's staying with us.

"His displays towards the end of the season were magnificent, Benno showed us just what a capable goalkeeper he has been and still is."

Joe Royle has also admitted to interest in Everton's Paul Gerrard, a former Town loanee, and released Charlton keeper Ben Roberts.
