Holland Set For Charlton! - Ipswich Town News

Town skipper Matt Holland now looks set to join Charlton Athletic after the Addicks matched Portsmouth's £750,000 offer. The Irish international is reported to already be in talks with the Premiership club.

The Portsmouth deal collapsed earlier this afternoon with the south coast club saying they could not match the player's financial requirements.

Now Town have announced that an offer has been accepted from Alan Curbishley's club for their skipper, based on "similar terms" to Portsmouth's offer.

Holland was widely tipped to join Charlton prior to transfer deadline day in March and was even in talks with the Londoners.

With his family keen to remain living on the Suffolk/Essex border a switch to a London club has always looked very much on the cards.

Portsmouth will be particularly unimpressed with the turn of events as former Town defender Hermann Hreidarsson chose to join Charlton ahead of Portsmouth only three months ago in very similar circumstances.
