Holland Deal Completed - Ipswich Town News

Charlton have completed the signing of Town captain Matt Holland on a four-year contract. The Addicks have announced that they will pay an initial fee of £750,000 with another £150,000 payable in £50,000 instalments if Charlton retain their Premiership status for the next three seasons.

Addicks boss Alan Curbishley is pleased to sign the Irish international: "I'm delighted to get Matt. He is a quality international player and will be a valuable addition to the first-team squad.

"A number of clubs were interested in signing Matt, but the fact he did not have to move house was a important factor in his decision to choose Charlton ahead of other clubs.”

It had long been clear that a move to a London club was preferred by Holland whose family were keen to remain living on the Suffolk-Essex border.

Holland, 29, made 314 appearances for the Blues - missing only one league game during that time - and scored 69 goals. He joined the Blues for £800,000 in the summer of 1997 from Bournemouth.
