Joe Confirms Broto Link - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Joe Royle says that Celtic's Spanish keeper Javier Sanchez Broto is a player he is interested in. Yesterday we reported that the 31-year-old was one of Royle's potential targets.

The Blues' manager says the out-of-contract keeper is a player who is in his thoughts: "Javier has been recommended to us by a number of agents and he is someone we are well aware of and are considering.

"There are also a couple of other keepers I have in mind but I won't be making any moves for them until I get back from holiday. I'm still confident that we will have someone in place well before the beginning of the season."

Birmingham's Ian Bennett was another target but he has agreed to stay at St Andrew's while Royle has ruled out a move for Grimsby's Danny Coyne.

Everton's Paul Gerrard is a keeper Royle has enquired about but with a year left at Everton he may not want to take a pay cut. Richard Wright's recent injury may have scuppered a Gerrard move, although the Toffeemen still have Steve Simonsen on their books and have been linked with a summer swoop for Bastia keeper Nicolas Penneteau.

Royle is back from his holiday in Majorca next week and says that once a keeper is in place he doesn't expect to make any more moves in the transfer market: "I don't anticipate I will be making any more signings after that."
