Evans a Target? - Ipswich Town News

Released Chelsea youngster Rhys Evans is the latest keeper to be mentioned in connection with the Town number one shirt. Evans, an England U21 international, was let go by the London club at the end of the season.

Evans, 21, has had spells on loan at Bristol Rovers, QPR and Leyton Orient while at Chelsea.

Town boss Joe Royle has said he plans to bring in a new keeper before the beginning of the season. However, the return of Matteo Sereni - and the continued presence at the club of free transfers Andy Marshall and James Pullen - may put back any potential signing, the Blues keen to keep the wage bill down.

Names previously mentioned and confirmed as potential targets by Royle are Ben Roberts, Paul Gerrard, Javier Sanchez Broto and Ian Bennett, although the latter will definitely be staying at Birmingham. All, like Evans, are out of contract and would be available without a fee.
