Returning Italian Matteo Sereni will miss out on Malcolm Webster's annual national goalkeeper coaching course with a knee strain. Webster and business partner former Town loanee Fred Barber run the course each summer at Staffordshire College.
More than 50 professional keepers and 26 on their way into the game will attend the intensive course. All the other Town custodians - Andy Marshall, James Pullen, Lewis Price, Scott Peat and very highly-rated young Irishman Shane Supple - will be in attendance.
Webster says that Sereni shouldn't be overstetched at this point: "Unfortunately Matteo will not be with us as he has a slight strain behind a knee. He has had less holidays than the rest of the lads anyway so there is no point pushing him too hard this early.
"He has done everything we have asked of him in the three days he has been back and been extremely professional.
"We know he is a fabulous keeper and if you remember the magnificent six months he had when he first arrived here you know he can keep goal. At the moment he is an Ipswich Town keeper who has every chance of keeping goal for us at the beginning of the season and if he produces what we know he can produce, he will be a top keeper in this division.”
Webster himself has been studying and is now amongst the highest qualified keeper-coaches in the country. He recently completed the FA goalkeeping diploma, an award held by only 11 people.
Amongst the keepers from other clubs involved next week are Bolton's Jussi Jaaskelainen and West Brom's Russell Hoult. The course will also give Webster an opportunity to look at released Chelsea keeper Rhys Evans who is one of the players who has been linked with Town.
