More Spending On Way - Ipswich Town News

Town manager George Burley has revealed that Town have not finished their spending spree. After failing to land Claus Jensen and Hassan Kachloul the Blues splashed out on Hermann Hreidarsson who is due to be paraded at a press conference this afternoon. George Burley said: "The chairman tells me there there are still funds available to keep improving, which is very important." One possible new signing is the rumoured return of Mauricio Taricco, although this is unlikely to happen before Saturday when Town play his current club Spurs.

Jim Magilton captained Northern Ireland as they lost 2-1 to Yugoslavia last night. There are no reports of any injury to the Town midfielder.

George Burley has hit back at Chelsea Chairman Ken Bates' claims that there are no decent English players these days. Bates was defending his club's policy of buying abroad, but the Town manager disagrees with his view of homegrown players: "When Ken Bates says there are not any great British footballers that's not something I agree with." Burley added that Town's approach, the antithesis of Chelsea's, has seen us bring through some excellent youngsters: "We've been producing some of the finest players in the country through our Academy and bringing in players like David Johnson and improving them."
