Town to Face Levski Sofia - Ipswich Town News

Town will face Bulgarian side Levski Sofia in the traditional season precursor on Friday, August 1st at Portman Road (7.45pm). The Blues were set to face Athletic Bilbao in the friendly but negotiations broke down two weeks ago.

One man who is likely to welcome the game is former Bulgarian international Bontcho Guentchev who played for both clubs. The striker joined Levski towards the end of his career after leaving England and featured for them in the UEFA Cup. Guentchev still lives in London.

Among Levski's best known players are Nigerian international Garba Lawal, who was linked with Town during his time with Roda JC Kerkrade in Holland, and Bulgarian striker Georgi Chilikov.

Ticket details will be released on Tuesday.
