Hreidarsson Signs - Ipswich Town News

Town this morning completed the signing of Hermann Hreidarsson. The Icelandic international becomes Town's record capture and is set to start tomorrow's game at Spurs.

Town manager George Burley has been following the 26-year-old's progress for some while and is confident he will do a good job for Town: "He is a strong solid defender with pace and experience in the Premiership.

"Having watched him closely he has continued to get better and better and is well adjusted to the English game. Hermann now has a reputation as one of the strongest left-sided defenders in Premiership football."

Chairman David Sheepshanks added his words of praise for the former Palace, Brentford and Wimbledon player: "Clearly I am thrilled that we have been able to recruit such a class act as Hermann Hreidarsson.

"There has never been any doubt about our plans to invest substantially in bringing new players to Portman Road nevertheless as ever, the selection of the right player is paramount.

"We would have liked to have completed this signing earlier however Wimbledon were understandably reluctant to part with one of their prize assets. Hermann shares our ambitions and understands the passion and the spirit in our Club.

"This latest signing brings the number of full internationals at Portman Road up to five. As to the future, we are continuing in our pursuit of further players."

Hreidarsson is understood to have cost Town £4.1 million.
