Town's new goalkeeper is set to be Wimbledon's Kelvin Davis. The 26-year-old Bedford-born stopper has been in talks with Joe Royle today and looks almost certain to make the move to Portman Road.
Royle has been confident over the last three days that the deal to take the former Luton catcher to Portman Road was all but complete. Davis has another year left of his deal with Wimbledon and the Blues may have to pay a small fee.
The Dons are currently in administration and their tiny band of fans are seeing their side decimated with Damien Francis already gone to Norwich, Neil Shipperley to Crystal Palace and others also expected to leave.
Davis, 6'1”, started his career with local side Luton Town where he made 105 appearances. He spent time on loan at Hartlepool and Torquay during his five years at Kenilworth Road before moving to Wimbledon in July 1999 for £600,000.
The former England U21 keeper has made 146 senior starts with the Dons and 258 during his entire career. He spent time on trial at Everton last summer but was unwilling to move to Liverpool.
If all goes to plan Davis will be in the Town line-up at Colchester United on Saturday.
