Town Ban Fans - Ipswich Town News

Town have banned three lower tier North Stand fans for persistent standing. The club has come down heavily on standing this season with supporters repeatedly warned that bans could be enforced.

Town safety officer Geoff Sheppard told the club site that the club is only acting within the rules set out to them: "We have given all supporters due warning that, in line with the Football Licensing Authority's guidelines, we are committed to ensuring that fans generally remain seated throughout the game.

"This is primarily a safety issue, we are acting in line with Government instructions and in the hope that by altering the actions of a minority of Town supporters we can ensure the continued safe enjoyment of the remaining fans."

However, TWTD has spoken to fans of a number of other First Division clubs and only one, Nottingham Forest, was enforcing the 'no standing rule' in the same way as Town.

Coventry fans expressed surprise at their treatment at Portman Road last Saturday, feeling that the Town approach was over the top.

The three fans will stay banned until after the matter is discussed at September's board meeting.
