Johnno Helps County - Ipswich Town News

Former Town striker David Johnson has unusually become a hero at Notts County while a player at rivals Nottingham Forest. Johnson attended cash-strapped County's game with Luton at the weekend and gave the ailing club £500.

County Supporters' Trust spokesman Steve Westby welcomed Johnson's gift: "All respect to him. He came onto the pitch at half-time and donated £500 having travelled up specially as he was working on TV all morning in London."

The Football League's oldest club needed to raise £250,000 by today or face going out of business. However, it appears they now have longer to generate the cash as Nottingham City Council have loaned them the money in the short-term.

But this does not mean they are out of the woods, according to Supporters' Trust chairman David Hindley: "This is not the end. We still need to raise £250,000.

"This is not a gift or a present. Nobody is giving us the money. It is a loan which we have to pay back.

"We still need to raise more than £250,000, that should not be forgotten.

"In fact, our actual target was more like £500,000. We would like to contribute more to the club's future."

Town fans can do their bit to help Notts County by attending the Carling Cup tie between the two clubs at Meadow Lane on Tuesday, September 23rd.
