Rhodes in Reserves - Ipswich Town News

Newmarket Town left midfielder Alex Rhodes is included in the reserves side facing Derby County this evening at Portman Road (KO 7pm). TWTD reported earlier this month that the highly-rated youngster would have a trial with the Blues.

Rhodes is at the club this week to try and impress Joe Royle and his staff after previous trials at Norwich, Luton, Cambridge and Yeovil.

Early on in the season the 21-year-old scored hat-tricks in three successive Ridgeons League matches, alerting league scouts to his abilities. He currently has a two-year contract with the Jockeys and would cost a fee of around £20,000.

Town will welcome back central defender John McGreal to reserves action after his back injury. The former Tranmere man will hope this comeback is more successful than his last when he limped off with a hamstring problem.

Nabil Abidallah has returned from a trial with Scottish Division One side Ross County and will join them once the January transfer window opens.

The Dutchman will be in the Town midfield tonight alongside Matt Bloomfield who we understand could be a loan target of former Blues' boss George Burley who will watch the game this evening, his first return to Portman Road since his sacking just over a year ago.

Reserves: Lewis Price, Scott Mitchell, James Krause, John McGreal, Gerard Nash, Matt Bloomfield, Antonio Murray, Nabil Abidallah, Alex Rhodes, Dean Bowditch, Alun Armstrong. Subs: Scott Barron, Liam Manning, Scott Peat, Adem Atay, Liam Craig.
