New Signing Imminent - Ipswich Town News

Our sources tell us that Town will sign an as yet unspeculated upon player early this week. As reported George Burley has put in an offer on a foreign player and it is thought that this offer will be accepted. The player is said to be a left-sided international defender.

Other newspaper reports at the weekend link us with Hearts pair Gary Naysmith and Colin Cameron. This story has been around for ages, but refuses to die a death, however I think if Town were interested in either something would have happened by now. Also linked is Didier Dheedene, a Belgian from Anderlecht. The 28-year-old defender is reported to be interesting Town and Southampton. There doesn't appear to be too much substance to the story, however.

It looks like Town may soon lose young centre-half Wayne Brown. The Blues are reported to have turned down a request from Wimbledon asking if they could take the player on loan, however Town have intimated that if a decent offer came in then they might be prepard to part with the Cambridge born player permanently. Brown, currently suffering with a minor hip injury, is well back in the pecking order at Portman Road with Hermann Hreidarsson and Mark Venus both, like him, left sided centre-halves.
